The “Blockchain in Babi” event, held on June 29-30, 2024, in Abidjan, has concluded with tremendous success, marking a significant milestone in the region’s blockchain and Web3 landscape and writing history as the first blockchain hackathon IRL event organized in Ivory Coast.
The event was orchestrated by the Blockchain African Movement (BAM), an organization crafting innovative phygital experiences to foster blockchain adoption in Africa, in partnership with Lideflow, a startup that helps businesses and individuals accept and send payments in the African market.
This two-day gathering brought together leading figures in the Ivorian blockchain space, over 100 passionate attendees, and a vibrant online community with a reach of over 50,000 individuals.
Event Highlights
The event featured an insightful conference, an engaging hackathon, and ample networking opportunities, making it a hub of innovation and learning.
The conference highlighted the multiple use cases of the blockchain technology, from decentralized finance (DeFi) to agribusiness, and the importance of increasing blockchain literacy in Africa.
One of the standout aspects of the event was the hackathon, where 12 teams competed to create innovative blockchain solutions solving real life problems and aspiring blockchain developers learn solidity to build a project using Lideflow’s API.
Special recognition was given to a talented group of women developers from Digifemmes, whose participation underscored the importance of diversity and inclusion in the tech industry.
Winning Teams and Projects
1st Place: Cacao Tracking
Team: Marie Claire Kabran Epse Guehi (leader), Sita Victorine and Sereme
Project description: Cacao Tracking is a platform that leverages blockchain technology to trace the journey of cocoa beans from the farm to the final product. By recording each stage of the production process on a secure digital ledger, it ensures transparency and accountability in the cocoa supply chain. The system provides farmers with a tool to monitor their cocoa’s progress, while also offering insurance protection against potential losses. Through integration with payment platforms enabled by lideflow, farmers can conveniently manage insurance premiums and receive compensation in case of claims.
